Coming off of a thrilling victory vs the Chicago Bears, the San Francisco 49ers are looking for another win as they take on the 7-1 Arizona Cardinals, at Levi's Stadium. The Cardinals were the last undefeated team up until last week, when they played against the Green Bay Packers during Thursday night football. The game was very close, but the Packers edged it out winning 24-21. The Cardinals were very productive through the passing game, with Kyler Murray going 22/33 with 274 yards, and 2 interceptions. The Cardinals receiving game is one of if not the best in the league including names such as Deandre Hopkins, AJ Green, Zach Ertz, and many others. Also on offense Kyler Murray is very mobile, so defenses have to be weary of his running abilities. Against the Packers he ran 6 times for a total of 21 yards. The rushing game for the cardinals is nothing to scoff at as they are ranked 7th in rushing yards per game, and 7th in total rushing yards. As they say defense wins championships, and the Cardinals defense is one of the greats. During their past few games they held many offensive powerhouses to less than 21 points. These powerhouses include the Rams, Browns, and the Titans. The Cardinals defense is ranked 4th in the league for the amount of yards per game only allowing 319.
The 49ers on the other hand are an exceptional team riddled with injuries, and inconsistent performances. The 49ers passing defense has been torn apart by deep throws, and huge passive interference calls. Especially with the threat of a mobile quarterback the Niners defense will be tested. Towards the end of the game the defense played a lot better, which should give 49ers fans hope as the team is getting more comfortable in the new defensive formation, and the plays. The 49ers offense played really well against the Bears, but were not able to convert when they were in scoring position. They had to try 5 field goals of which 4 were made. Later on the offense started to click a little more, leading to 3 touchdowns.
I believe that the 49ers will lose to the Cardinals 27-17. The Niners defense is looking a lot better than they were against the Colts, but I do not think it is near enough to contain the EXPLOSIVE POWER of the Cardinals. I also think that even with the great Cardinals defense the Niners will still put up some points. I think an interesting matchup that may be a pivotal point in the game will be the 49ers cornerbacks(K’Waun Williams, or Emmanuel Mosley) going up against AJ Green. It is likely that Josh Norman will defend Deandre Hopkins so if the 49ers can limit Kyler Murray’s options then he will make mistakes. If the Niners are able to defend well and keep up their top tier defense I believe they will have a shot at making the playoffs due to a wildcard entry.
