Data even as a casual fan!

In God we trust. For everything else, we need data

In this blog, I tend to highlight how the usage of data has been prevalent in the world of sports and where fans can use data insights to make predictions, use in fantasy

Even as a casual fan you use data, and it may be subconsciously.

An obvious sign of using data amongst fans is when you play a fantasy version of the sport. For example in fantasy football you likely want your team to win. To win you need the most points, and points are earned by different positions based on their stats. To earn the most points for your team, stats and data are very important. You may be thinking that if I just choose all the big name players, then I will probably get the most points. However this logic is flawed. For example Terry Mclaurin AKA Scary Terry was a third round draft pick for the Washington Football Team. There was minimal fan awe around his name. Considering he was a rookie, and a third round draft pick that year, he likely was not on many fantasy football teams. If you had picked him up for the 2019 year you would have gotten a total of 133.9 points just because of him in the entire season. That may not seem like a lot but compared to all other receivers in that year, that puts him in the top 30. Most leagues are composed of 10 teams, each with 2 Wr’s and a flex player. A flex player can be either a TE, RB, or WR. He put up more points than many notable names such as Emmanuel Sanders, Larry Fittzgerald, Randall Cobb, and many more.
